This past Sunday, December 2nd, marked the 9 week threshold! I am in my third month of pregnancy! This is very exciting for both Andy and I! Last week I had a pretty nasty head cold, and once that was gone the nausea kicked up heavily. So this week has been welcomed with wide open arms and excitement that nausea should wane by the end of the year!
Baby should be the size of a grape this week, measuring about 1 inch long. Yesterday (12/3), Andy and I went to the OBGYN for our first prenatal appointment. We were asked questions and tests were administered! I have gained a total of five pounds since learning of my pregnancy, so I will have to be more careful about what I eat and try to walk more. Weight loss is NOT my goal, but not gaining more than 25 pounds total is important to me. My doctor said that I should shoot to gain 25 pounds, hence the aforementioned goal.
Now, the most exciting news for the blog! When the doctor came in and took my vital signs, she looked for Baby's heartbeat. After a few seconds of looking, she found his heartbeat! Beating at 170 beats per minute :) Per some Old Wive's Tales on the Internet, Baby's heartbeat above 140 indicates that it will be a girl. Per some research that Andy found, the average 9 week old fetus has a heart beat of 177 beats per minute. With that being said, it could be too early to determine Baby's possible gender based on heart beat. We will keep you posted when we get new news. Today I went to have blood taken for my blood tests--eleven vials worth! Hopefully the blood work will come back positive with no issues! The day after Christmas we are going for our first semester ultrasound! That is certainly going to be a GREAT Christmas present :)

Keep up the good work!
